Our Programmes

1. Sports Development

Coaches
Coaches both male and female are trained in different sports, but mainly football, netball and volleyball. The coaches are then allocated small teams at the center to coach in the sport that they trained in.  Currently the center has 2 certified TFF trained coaches. Young people have the opportunity to become coaches so that they may develop from playing a sport to helping to coach others in that sport. Peer coaches are young people who have had the opportunity to develop themselves by learning how to become a sports coach.
Referees
BYC has 6 trained referees 5 of them are boys and 1 is a girl who are recognized by Tanzania’s referees governing body (TFF). 5 have official certificates from this governing body. BYC Trains referees both boys and girls with the aim of building their capacity. These are mainly in football and volleyball.
Leadership training
BYC  youth are normally trained in sports leadership skills and on leadership in general.

First AID training
The sports development programme wants to ensure that youth get trained in delivering First AID in case someone gets hurt at the centres.  Currently no training is being conducted though plans are in progress to ensure that youth are trained.

2. Health

Kicking AIDS Out
BYC implements its HIV/AIDS activities through its Kicking AIDS Out program. The KAO program ensures that children and youth at BYC and surrounding communities get HIV/AIDS education through its peer coaches. Youth and children who have an interest in KAO activities and portray leadership qualities are recruited and are trained as peer coaches. These peer coaches, through movement games and discussions create awareness on HIV and AIDS amongst their fellow peers daily when they meet for sports training or amongst community members through community bonanzas and sports leagues organized by community members.  Currently BYC has 5 peer leaders, 2 LL1, and 1 LL2 (according to the KAO Network Curriculum) implementing KAO activities at the centers.
KAO activities are integrated in to all the sports at BYC and the peer leaders are given opportunities to facilitate KAO activities during sports competitions or leagues that they have been invited to.

3. Environmental Health

This program is aimed at creating awareness to the youth on the importance of

environmental cleanliness, protection and conservation. Through various activities that will

take place in the community around Buguruni Youth Centre (BYC) the youth will learn how

to be responsible stewards of the environment. Previous activities that the youth at BYC

have taken part in include unclogging pipes and sewages in Buguruni Community.

In addition the youth at Buguruni after evening sports practices usually clean the school

compound and this also instils a sense of responsiblity, thus taking care of the environment.
